Affiliation bye-laws set staff qualifications, section sizes, and infrastructure norms that have to be documented and produced on demand. Assessment follows CBSE's current scheme, with co-scholastic grading and, for Classes 9 and 10, the A1–E2 letter bands. Board registration for Classes 9 to 12 runs on the CBSE calendar, and a missed submission window is not something a spreadsheet reminder fixes.

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation, still used by many state boards, is where most software falls short, because it is not one exam — it is a sequence. OVIA models the full cycle: FA1 and FA2 leading into SA1, then FA3 and FA4 into SA2, with each formative and summative component carrying its own weight in the final scholastic grade. You set the weightages once per class and every exam inherits them.

Scholastic subjects are graded on the CBSE A1–E letter scale, and the boundaries are configurable — if the board revises the bands, or your school runs a stricter internal cut-off, you change the numbers without touching any student record. Marks entered by teachers convert to grades automatically, and the system flags anything out of range before it reaches a report card.

Co-scholastic assessment is handled the same way. Work education, art education, health and physical education, and discipline are graded on their own scales alongside the scholastic subjects. Teachers see one marks-entry screen per class; the grade card assembles itself from it, in your school's exact design, ready to publish to parents or print.

The senior classes run on their own rules, and OVIA has a dedicated workflow for them. At Class 11, students choose a stream — Science, Commerce, or Humanities — and OVIA organises subjects, timetables, and mark entry around that choice. Subject combinations and electives are configured per stream, so a Commerce student's mark sheet never carries a Physics practical column it should not have.

Practical and theory components are weighted separately for the subjects that need it, matching the board's split. Internal assessment, practicals, and projects each track as their own component and roll into the final result the way CBSE expects. Pre-board exams run as complete assessment cycles with full result analysis, so teachers can see which students are at risk well before the board exam.

Board registration is tracked per student for Classes 9 to 12 — registration numbers, roll numbers, and submission status all live on the student profile. The system flags students whose registration is incomplete before the deadline, so nothing slips. Class 10 and Class 12 admit cards pull directly from the same profile, and once board results are published they can be imported back against each student.

UDISE+ is an annual obligation, and the pain is never the submission itself — it is assembling the data. Student demographics, staff qualifications, enrolment by class and category, and infrastructure details normally get pulled together from four different registers in the weeks before the deadline. OVIA captures those fields at the point they naturally occur — admission, staff onboarding, class allocation — so the data is already there when submission season arrives.
